Birmingham Among England’s Top Burglary Hotspots

kslohat99

Birmingham is among the leading burglary hotspots in England, which means residents of the city should be particularly wary about their home security.

Research by home security systems firm ADT recently revealed that the city has the fourth highest rate of burglaries, with 17 per 1,000 households suffering a break-in every year. The only places affected by higher rates were Doncaster at 18 per 1,000, Manchester at 20 and Middlesbrough at 22.

Elsewhere in the West Midlands, the burglary rate per 1,000 was 14 in Solihull, 13 in Walsall and 12 in Wolverhampton.

More rural parts of the West Midlands did somewhat better, with Staffordshire Moorlands one of several locations with a rate of just two per 1,000.

The survey also showed that the most commonly stolen items included car keys, for the obvious reason that this can facilitate a car theft in addition to other loot taken from a home. But those snatching keys may also get hold of spare house keys and unless this is noticed, the home could be vulnerable to a second raid, with much easier access.

That is why an emergency locksmith in Birmingham could be essential, not least as if you live alone you might not be safe to go out until the locks are changed.

Checkatrade lists this as one of the best reasons to change your locks. It observed that it might seem “fairly obvious”, but that a “surprising” number of people don’t think to do it, making the risk of a return visit all the more likely.

After all, it is worth noting that if your house has been raided, those who have stolen goods will know what items you will have used your home insurance payouts to replace, so if they go back a month or two later they know what to expect to find. They may also be coming back for something they know they missed the first time.

So if you have had a break-in or even an attempted one, don’t leave yourself open to becoming a victim of two burglaries in a city with far too many crimes of this kind to start with.
